Grey Wiese
Sobchak, Rudkovskaya, His Mother and the Freedom to Live on His Own Terms
In his interview with TV Rain, Sergey Grigoryev-Appolonov — Grey Wiese — quite literally arrives with a suitcase from Paris. The unpacking becomes a miniature portrait of the man himself: Hermès, Saint Laurent, vintage Schiaparelli, filming equipment and an old prayer book Sergey has carried with him for many years. Behind the love of luxury and beautiful objects, a far more personal story emerges once again.
Sergey also speaks openly about money. According to him, his expensive wardrobe has been made possible by advertising, social media monetization and his work as a blogger.
One of the central themes is his relationship with Yana Rudkovskaya. For Sergey, meeting and speaking with people who hold different views is more important than building new walls. He explains this as a desire to preserve dialogue and reach beyond his own audience.
He also reflects on his major interview with Ksenia Sobchak. Sergey admits that he expected a much harsher reaction, but the audience comments turned out to be unexpectedly warm. One message in particular stayed with him: a viewer thanking his mother « for such a wonderful son. »
His mother becomes one of the most personal subjects of the conversation. Sergey calls her the closest person in his life and says she has always supported his choices — even when she herself found his departure difficult. Today, being able to spend more time with her in Europe is especially important to him.
Behind the fashion, travel and irony, Grey Wiese’s central philosophy appears once again: spend less of your life absorbed in other people’s anger, and more of it living your own.
